MONTBI»Y MEETING. The monthly meeting of the executive of the St. John Ambulonoe Association wne held on Wednesday evening in the association'B rooms, the following members being present: —The Rev. Bryan King (in the chair), Mesdamoa Baiter and Bulte, Misses Monson and Mackeray, and Mesaie CotiU, Falconer, Fleming, Hanson, Bosove&r, Smith, Speight, and Wilkinson. Apologies lor abaeno-e were received from Mossra Beadle, Gurter, Glendining, and Hazlott. After consideration of the quotations received, it was decided to order a sample lot of ambulance kit boxes Irom Mr Dickinson. The results obtained in tho class examinations were very satisfactory, as in both the women's first aid and tho home nursing classes all tho candidates bad passed. A' high avorago of marks was gained, and two of tho candidates received upeciai mention from tho examiners (Drs Clark and M'dyniont) for the excellence of thoir papery. Tho - Chairman reported that efforts had boon made to induce the Government to increase the sum voted to the funded of tho association in New Zealand, but without euccess. The nureing report for September showed that 461 visits had been paid! by the dist:ict nurses, Eegret was expressed that this branch of the association's work was hampered by financial considerations. In tho transport report an increased number of oalla for the month was shown, the ambulances having been used 110 times. Tho financial report, which was a rather gloomy document, waa diwussed at considerable length, the more pessimistic members hinting that the association's activities would have to be ourtniled drastically unless an improvement followed. It waa generally considered, however, that it would bo premature to take any steps in this direction pending the result of the forthcoming collection by the Publio Subscriptions Association. A motion of sympathy with Nurse Saliebury in her recent bereavement was carried, the members etandrng. A joint council of tho Bed Cross Society and the Order of St. John in New Zealand ■waa proposed. A letter from Sir Heaton Rhodes inviting delegates to attend a meeting to be held in Wellington on the 26th inst. was read and discussed. It wos decided! that Dr Falconer and, if possible, Mrs Baker Bhould represent the Dnnedin Centre at the conference. The respite of the examinations in connection with tho St. John Ambulance Association classes proved very satisfactory, every candidate succeeding in passing, while the average of .the marks obtained was high.
