SOLDIERS' REUNION
STKATH-TATBRI FUNCTION.
The Strsth-Taieri Soldiers' Farewell Committee held its final function, lost Friday Digit, whon, inverting the order of its former operations, it tendered a -welcome home and reunion social, concert, and ball to the returned soldiers of the district. The Chairman, Mr T. "W. Wise, briefly outlined the object of the function, and expressed pleasure at seeing so large a gathering of people. A Bplendid oonoert programme was then rendered by local talent and visitors, the latter including Miss J. Christie and Mr Rolestorii from Duuedin, and Mr Flamank, of Borewood. Following are the names of those who contributed items at the oonoert: Solos —Messdames Finney and Leslie, Mobs J. Christie, Messrs R. Leslie, Flamank, Roleeton, aid Armstrong; duets, Miss Christie and Mr Flamank; accompanists, Miss Christie and Mrs Leslie. In a brief-address the Rev. H. Blomfield congratulated the soldiers on the way they were tackling the problems of their new circumstances, and reminded them that in war their strength lay in the bond of unity, and now reunited in peace their success would be greatly fostered by the mamtaining of the bonds of friendship and brotherhood. The Rev. J. Standring, of Alexandra, formerly minister at Middlemaroh, said he had journeyed there to say a word of welcome and cheer to the soldiers, and it gave him very great pleasure to do so. He had been at the gatherings and addressed them wben they wore sent off—some, alas I never to rehe had looked forward to this reunion with glad feelings, yet touched with sadness, for ho too had shared with them in the ministry of sorrow and loss. From the bottom of his heart he wished them all success and true prosperity ♦w!!* 7-J?-' ( fiecretar y) said that with the work of the committee would bo completed. It had fulfilled the purpose for which it had com fcrtobefc? and after a few details were attended to the committee would wind up the affairs of the society.
