AUCKLAND, September 28. Samuel John Thorn, who was arrested on September 11 on a charge 'Hhat at Pukokawa, on August 24, lie murdered Sidney Seymour Eyre," was brought before Mr Poynton, S.M., this morning, and was further remanded for eight daj-fv. A peculiar position that resulted from the recent strike in the sugar refining industry was the fact that of seven members on the executive do fewer than four members were amongst the party alleged to have been victimised. This position was ventilated at a meeting of the union, with the result that a new executive was elected, the members considering it inadvisable to liave members on the executive who are not actively engaged in the industry. The election of president took on a lot of interest, no fewer than seven candidates coming forward. Mr J. Ross, who formerly held tho position, was re-elected. A provisional levy was struck for the purpose of assisting tho members alleged to have l>een victimised, but those concerned declined the offer with thanks
