SALE OF PAINTINGS
Park Reynolds (Ltd.), under instructions from Mr J. M. Scha.piro, of Auckland, submitted at auction yesterday a number of pictures obtained from Christie's London, and other places, including overflow paintings from old collections. Ihero were paintings, guaranteed by the vendor and the auctioneer, from the easel s of Constable Romney, S:r Joshua Reynolds, and other painters of note, as well as a. number - of unsigned pictures, and many from the brushes of les s renowned artists. There was a good attendance, but bidding was not at all spirited, and there was in all cases a difference of opinion between tho vendor and possible purchasers as to values. A few of the lower-priced paintings changed hands, but none of the more valuable ones found purchasers, and for many there was lio bid at all. The sale will be resumed on Monday, and continued on several other days during the week.
