TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Taieri County Council was hold yesterday; present —Ors Blackio (chairman), Donertv, Kempshell, Coristie, l<'indlay, and Blair. The Ifinance Committee reported on exponditure lor tho month aa follows: General account, £1171 15s 3d; charita-blo aid account, £346 3s 8d; Government grant, Green Island to Taieri Mouth, £126-— total, £1643 183 lid. Messrs C. J. Hobbs and J. Sutherland, roDrteeuting the Memorial Hall Committee' Brighton, waited on the council in regard to getting a sjte ior the halL The deputation waa advised to apply to have the proposed site (the market reserve section) vested in trustees, the necessary measure to bo ob- . tamed in tho Washing-up Bill, to which end the council would assist. Mr M. C. TT onderson, city electrical engineer, waited on tho council for the purIjoso of explaining the terms and system on which tne Dunedin City Electrical Department was prepared to supply electrical energy for farms on tho Taieri. He explained tho whole position in regard to guarantors, and was given cordial thanks for tho information given. The Secretary, Bast Taieri School Committee, wrote asking tho council to name the footpath just completed from Gladstono road to tho school gate " Brown's path," as a tribute- to the late Rev. W. Brown.— Agreed to. Mosses A. "W. Amoa and five others wrote requesting attention to the road to the properties at Momona.—lt was resolved that tho work be attond«xl to after drainage operations at tho dairy factory ha,vo boeu completed. John Switalla, Wingatui, asked for an increase in the price for horse work.—The council decided to reply that it could not see its way to alter tho present rates. Mr B. B Couston wrote stating that he had been instructed by Messrs T. K. and A. M. Sidey to adviso tho council that thoy proposed to subdivide the wholo of their property fronting tho Kaikorai Valley road and Townley*s road into allotments for tho purpose of sale, and to make application that these roads be axempted from the provisions of section 117 of tho Public Works Act, 1908 (tho provision requiring the indenmg of roads before subdivisions are made). Mr Couston explained that tho land was partly in the Taieri County, partly in Croon Island, and partly in Dunedni city, extending from Morninjrton across the Kaikorai Valley to the Southern Reservoir, and r-ioh section -would, contain fivo acres.—Tho lrriuost was agreed to.
