PORT CHALMERS OLD IDENTITIES' ASSOCIATION.

At the annual meeting' of tho Port Chal- | mers_ Old Identities' Association yesterday j evening in the Town Hall, tho president (Mr I I. C. Isbistcr) commented on the gratifying'! attendance of members, despite tho trying weather of the past, few days. -The annual report reviewed the circumstances, pertaining to tho forming of the association and to its first mooting on September 26, 1913, when the Mayor presided and foretold a useful career for the society. The report went oil to state that tho predictions of that initial meeting were being realised. The association was growing daily, and promoting a kindly feeling toward tho oid identifies and tueir descendants. It was also educating the younger generations as to the history of their forefathers. The monthly meetings had boon held regularly, and had been well attended by members of tho committee. The quarterly meetings had been sucmsslul, and iiad been appreciated by many of the members, who had given tlie committee a good deal of enc'ouracemesi in going on with tho meetings. Thanks were due to tho speakers and singers who had performed, dicing the year, special thanks being accorded tho Idlers' Sociotv, the Port Uialmers singers and players, and tho accompamsto, Miss Mackie. Tho membership had increased from 267 to 252, and this was regarded, as highly satisfactory, especially in view of tho fact that a number had been Jest by death and by arrears in contribuvl , , M" 1 " 3 - 1 balance sheet showed a credit balance of £16 18s 10d,-an increase of ±7 6s Id for the year. Tho eommittec had tried to get the names of all holding prominent positions in the town, and this was tho result. Mr A. Lock had worked h«rd as assistant secretary, and tho committee felt sure something would bo done to compensate lam in some measure. Thanks wero due to tho Ladies' Committee for their work ill providing tea, etc. It was with regret the committee abandoned the holding of a picnic last year, but hoped to be able to hold one this season.
