REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.

(Peb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 23. Tlie railway working account revenue for the period from April 1 to August 21 shows a total of £2,423,033, as compared with £2.026,443 for the corresponding period of last year. Tlie North Island lines contributed £1.405.190, as against £1,151,193, and tho South Island lines £1,017,848, compared with £875,249. Tlie expenditure for the period totalled £2,031,537, or 85 per cent, of the revenue, as compared with £1,383,394 (or 68.27 per cent.l in tho corresponding period of last year. Tlie expenditure on the North Island "lines totalled £1,110,830, or 79.05 p"r cent, of the revenue, as compared with £755,704 (or 65.65 per ccnt.) in the same period of last year; and the expenditure on the South Island linos amounted to £920,766 (or 50.46 per cent.), against £627,690 (or 71.72 per cent.) last year. The traffio returns show that there was an increase of 259,007 in number of live stock carried, and an increase of 33.052 tons in tlio quantity of goods carried. Tlie total numlier of tickets issued was 5,626,850, an increase of 1.317.516; and of season tickets there was an increase of 31,211.
