SOME INTERESTING INCREASES.
(From Odb Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON September 21. Iho coinmitti'o report on tho Civil List Bill was presented to the. House of Representatives to-day. Tho committee recommended that tho following list of payments should be adopted:—
Speaker of the Legislative Council ... £ BCO Chairman of Committees, Legislative Council 450 Speaker of tho House of Representat'ves 1000 Chairman of Committees of tho House of Representatives 700 Members of the Legislative Council... 350 Members of the House of Representatives 500
The payments arc to be made from the date ot the election of the members of the House, and in tho case of members of the Legislative Council from the sam e date, or tho later date of their individual appointment.
i'he committee also recommended that a fund be created (by annual allocution) for the purpose ol aiding ex-members and their families requiring assistance; applications to participate in such fund to be dealt with by a committee consisting of the Prime Minister, the Loader of the Legislative Council, tho two Speakers, and the Leader of the Opposition. Another recommendation is that ox-members who have served for three I arliamcnts in either Chamber, or conjointly in two Chambers, shall be allowed U retain their railway pass, with the privilege attaching thereto. Finally, the committee recommends that the Loader of the Opposition be provided by the Government with a private secretary and typist, to be appointed by the Speaker of the House. The suggested amendment will, if agreed to. give Ministers of the Crown their honorarium in addition to their Ministerial salaries, which will mean another £500 each per annum.
