OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of tho comrnitteo of the Otago Early Settlors' Association was held in tho boardroom yesterday afternoon, Mr J. Duthio in the chair. Tho following minute. was recorded: —"In placing on record its sense of the great loss the Otago Early Settlors' Association has sustained in tho ivntimely death of its president (Mx Donald Reid), the committe© reca.ll with full appreciation tho qualities !of heart and head, that endeared their president, to liio fellow members, his unfailing courtesy, hie keen interoet in, and warm affection for the association, evidenced by many generous gifts, and his faithful service lcnd'orod since its inception as member, member of committee, and president. Mr lteid's interest in >-ho association wna aai inherited one, and it was to bo expected that many years of further and devoted service might bo looked for at his hands. His tragic and suddcoa death has quenchod these hoyx>3 and expectations, and it only remains for theix committee to givo expression to its deep legist at his passing away, a regret fully alirjod, it is assured by every member of the association, its sense of tho IO6S sustained by it and the community at large, and the sincere sympathy with Mis Reid and her family, to whom it directs that a copy of this minute bo sent."
