Dempsey (the world's heavy-weight champion) knocked out Miske (the Ger-man-American heavy weight) in the third round.—A. and N.Z. Cable. NEW YORK, September 6. In the first round of the Miske-Dempsey fight the former hooked his left to the head and danced round. Then Dempsey landed right and left and two rights to the head and the pair exchanged body punches. In the second round the pair rushed in to a clinch. Dempsey landed a left on breaking and floored Miske with his right. Miske tcok the count for five seconds. In round three Dempsey danced round and hooked a hard right, to the bodv. Miske landed a left to the jaw, and* Dempsey swung his right, knocking Miske down As Miske climbed up again Dempsey swung a right to the chin This was the knock-out blow.—A. and N.Z. Cable. MONTREAL, September 6. (Received Sept. 7, at 8.45 p.m.) TJiree hard smashes retained the championship for Dempsey. The end nearly came in the first round, when Dempsey drove a pile-driver under the heart Miskie's groan was heard all over the ring' find he fell into <i clinch to sn.ve himself tenaciously clinging to Dempsey while the referee tried to pry them loose. He never fully recovered, and showed he was a badly hurt man. Miske went down-for the first time in the second round, when Dempsey crashed another blow into him. hurting his ribs. As the pair met in the third round Miske shifted his position and surprised the champion with a terrific left hook to the jaw, but Dempsey got in a similar blow at once, and Miske collapsed. He rose at the count of nine and gazed dazedly over the thron-' Dempsey measured the distance, and ..crashed a blow over the left shoulder of the challenger, who dropped in his tracks. Ihe report that one of his ribs was broken was unfounded. The rib was badly bruised, his jaw sore, and he had a terrific head ache, otherwise he was none the worse for the contest. Fifteen thousand persons were present, and the champion won between 50.000 and 100,000 dollars — A. and N.Z. Cable.
