Forbes (Hurunui) asked the Piime Minister this afternoon when the " ri i t » es were liko 'y to commence Mr Massey said that the department was i on e ™ atter - He did not think that the new tariff would commence to operate next Monday as he had expected, but Probably the Monday after. Ho could not speak but ho thought so. Mr A. S. Malcolm (Clutha) then a&ked if the department had consulted ftho commercial and farming interests in regard to the n< t? rates, and if not, would tho Minister lr.—Tuct it to do so.
Mr Massoy sajd that no injury would bo done to any class of the community by reason of the new rates. He would endeavour to havo all classes treated fairly and
