TRADE AGREEMENT WITH CANADA.
MUTUAL TARIFF PREFERENCE.

OTTAWA, August 4. J-lie new trade agreement between Canada and the West Indies provides, inter alia, that tlie mutual tariff preference of 20 per cent, be increased to 50 per cent., while the free list is to bo extended.
A weekly steamship service between Oanaclian ports and the eastern croup of the TV est Indies (Bahamas and Jamaica) is to be provided; also a fortnightly ser-vice-with the western group (Barbadoesand Trmidad). The various Governments in tho West Indies are to contribute the necessary shipping subsidies. The eastern service will start not later than January 1, ' , aJI '-" a "western service as soon as possible.
The agreement is for 10 years, subject to tie approval of the Canadian Parliament, the West Indies Legislatures, and the Secretary of State for the Colonies.— A. and N.Z. Cable.
