GENERAL NEWS

The Church of Christ, North-East Valley, held the thirty-fojirth anniversary services on Sunday. In the morning the exhortation was given by Bro. T. Arnold. In the afternoon there was a fine gathering of scholars, parents, and friends.' The president, ' Bro. Arnold, who' is also the Bible School superintendent, welcomed the visitors, and spoke warmly of the kind feeling and co-operation that existed between the teaching staff, parents, and children. Short addresses were given by Bro. Moore and Bro. Green,, and a couple of anthems were ably rendered by the Bible School choir, under the baton of Bro. L. Benjamin. These' were thoroughly enjoyed, and the afternoon proceedings were brought, to a close by Bro. T. Beadle by prayer. In the evening the service was preceded by a children's parade and an anthem by the Bible' School choir. The sermon was preached by Bro. Arnold, his subject being "Parental Responsibility." The anniversary tea and concert will be held on Thursday, ■when it is expected there will be a large The concert programme will "consist of songs, recitations* specially written dialogues, etc.

Court Pride of Green Island, A.0.F., held a successful bazaar in the Town Hall, Green Island, on Thursday and Friday. A large audienco attended each evening, the chief attraction being a tug-of-war contest and guessing and shooting competitions, prizes Consisting of a whole lamb, half-ton of 'coal, pictures, flower stands, etc. The visitors spent money freely. The stallholders were: —Work stall No. I—Mrs1 —Mrs T. , M'Ahan and H. Thompson; work stall No. 2—Mesdames G. Orange and E. Ensor; fancy- goods stall—Misses A. Barnes and V. Grant; produce stall—Messrs G. Gardiner and J. T. Barnes and Miss D. Taylor; l soft drinks—Messrs W. B. Halsey and G. Crawford; sweet stall—Mr J. Clark and 'Mesdames Anderson, Paterson, W. B. Walker, and Clark. This stall was very tastefully decorated and was well patronised. Mrs D. Taylor and her bevy of assistants were kept busy in tho refreshment room. Messrs D. K. Taylor, F. Hollows, and T. Patterson were in charge of the curio room, which did good business. Mr H. Thompson acted as Aunt Sally, and created much amusement, leading to successful business. Mr J. C. M'Lachlan gave a clog dance, which was well received, and Mr H. R. Cole gave a masterly display of lightning sketching, and his work afterwards finding a ready market. Mr J. C. Cunningham's orchestra rendered selections on both nights, and the Green Island Band, under Conductor C., Davie, played both outside and •inside on the Thursday night. A concert was held on Saturday evening, and was well attended. Tie following rendered items:—Piano solo, Miss A. M'Queen; violin solo, Mr R. Pettit; songs, Mts Anderson and Mis M'Fadyeu; recitation, Mr F. Hollow 3; lightning sketches, Mr H. R. Cole; Highland fling, Miss Mollie Grant; duet, Miss Ussher and I/cn I-Iill; comic 'song, Mr A. Hudson; imitations, Jesse Benfefl. Masses A. M'Queen, E. Paine, Ussher, and Messrs Nye, Pettitt, and H. Thompson acted as accompanists. A dance followed, at which Mrs M'Fadven contributed the song, "Ever of Thee," with flute obligato by Mr W. Paine. The re- ' suits of the baking and fancy work competitions are as follows: —Baking: Scones Mrs A. Porrin 1; pikelets, Mrs' Kilpatrick ; sponge, Mrs Smith; Madeira cake, Mr* Carruthers Fancy work: Camisole, Miss Julia Hayward; handworked handkerchief Mrs Smith: crocheted d'oyley, Mis Smith •' eyeletted d'oyley, Miss Barclay. This was to take place at the concort on Saturday night, but, owing to a misunderstanding regarding the conditions, the Telegraph team refused, and the Returned Soldiers' team was adjudged the winner. Morrison drew attention to tho social orogramme arranged for the incoming quarter, and trusted members ■tvould rally round and make it a success. After the business had been transacted the members engaged in the game of euchre, some exciting finishes resulting.
