WHANGAREI,. Jtine 4. I lie police were notified that the dead body of a young man, named Cyril Hughes, Was found in tho bush near ILaeo, with a gunshot wound in his abdomen and another in his head. He had beeo missing sinco Sunday, when he went away alone on a shooting expedition. The theory is that the abdominal wound was accidental, and that the head wound was self-inflicted to end his sufferings, as no help was forthcoming.

A FATAL COLLISION.

DUE TO NEGLIGENT DRIVING.

(Peb United Press Association.) OKRISTCSECURCH, June 4. The inques-, was continued to-day, before Mr M'Carthy, coroner, concerning the death of William Arthur Griffin, who was killed on the night of Hay 22 as the result of a collision between a motor oar he was riding in and a tnunoar.. After hearing the evidence, the coroner recorded a verdict tho* the motorman, Smith, was sober, • and the tramcar at the time of the accident waa travelling at a speed of about five miles an hour. The motor car was being driven after dark at a fast pace, though it was impossible now to estimate the approximate rate of speed. The evidence did not disclose any negligence on the part of the motorman, but that the driving by Robert Bruce Forsyth was negligent in three particulars:— (a) Forsyth was under the influence of liquor; (b) the motor car waa being driven at_ a fast pace after dark; (c) Forsyth either failed or was unable to keep a. proper look out. Si.ich negligent driving was the sola cause of tho death of the deceased.
