BURNS CLUB CONCERT

The monthly meeting of the Brans Club was held last eveninc in the Art Gallery Hall, which, despite the unfavourable Weather, was filled. The chairman (Mr R. M'Kinlay, president of tho dub), in his opening address, read a brief report of a meeting at Edinburgh, presided over by Lord Anderson, to devise means for yaiaing funds . for tho _ ercction of a TTwvmrxrml in the High street of the " auld toon" to tho memory of Robert Burns. He also read a paragraph from another paper regarding tho erection of an heroic atatue in bronze to the memory of •the poet in tho City of Boston (U.S.A.). Tho statue, it mentioned, was 9ft high, and represented the poet bearing a book in ono hand and his tamo' shanter m tho other, and with his favourito collie. Ihe chairman remarked thai it would bo interesting to know how many statues of Burns thero were in the world. It was certain that the great Scottish poet was more loved by the people to-day than ever he •was. The following programme was then gone throughßagpipo selection, Piper Donald Morrisoo; chairman's remarks, Mr R M'Kinlay; part song ("The Hundred Pipers"), choir; song ("Hail! Caledoma ), Mrs Wilfred Andrews; song ("King of the Air"), Mr M'AJlum; song ("The Lass of Kilean"), Mi® Alice Wilkinson; recitation (" Mrs Duggan's DisooveTy '*), Mr P. M'Carthy; song ( My Old Shako ), Mr ' W. Dawson; song ("The Star o' Robbio Burns"), Miss K. MaoCallum: Highland danoe. Miss MT-enmn; song (' The Sleeping Camp"), Mr R Walls; song ("The Battle of Stirling"). Mrs Wilfred Andrews; part aong ("The Gipsied Chorus ), choir; "Auld Lang Syne.' Miss E. Wright accompanied the singers tastefully, and the ohoir was conducted (in the ab sence, through indisposition, of Mr H. W. Armitag©) by Mr J. # Patterson. Ihe audience was enthusiastic, and numerous euoores lengthened 1 the programme, at the conclusion of which refreshments were handed joand, and a most enjoyable dance , followed. ■
