EARLY SETTLERS

[ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. Tho annual meeting of tho Early Settlers' Association was bold last night, Mr J. Dutnae presiding. 'ins report was adopted as published, without any discussion, the President merely remarking on the increase in membership, which, no thought, now stood at lSlx). He thought they would find the financial i report very satisfactory. Mr Proudtoot, wJho moved its adoption, said the association had made a profit of £163 3s lor the year. The President thanked members of tho oommittee fox then: support, and said ho felt sure the association had a splendid future before it. The following office-bearers wero appointed:—President, Mr Donald Read; vicepresidents—Mesara J. Duthie, G. L. Deuniston, W. H. D'erena, G. Older, — Crawley, Dr Fulton; conimittoe —Messrs J. J. Clark, E. C. irlazlott, J. ilopo, J. Loudon. W. D. Stewart, M.P., W. Nioolson, A. M'Kninou, Jaa. Brown, F. W. Knight, Waiter Blaokie, Mesdamcs Hayward and Barnes; hon. treasurer, Mr G. C. Proudfoot; auditors—Messrs EL F. M. Moroer and R. A. Duthie. Mr G. h. Denniston and Dr Fulton re- • f erred in eulogistic terms to Mr Proudloot s valuable services over. a long period of years, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Calder, that a vote of thanks be recorded in the minutes to him for his valuable services as hon. treasurer of the associaAvote of thanks was also accorded to tho secretary (Mr W. PatersonJ, members expressing the hope that he would have a speedy reoovery. A hearty vote of thanks waa accorded to the retiring president, on the motion of Mr M'Kenzie, who said he thought Mr Duthie was the oldest member of tho association at the present time. , Votes of thanka wero also passed to the ' todies and oil who had assisted at the aasooiation'a quarterly meetings, and to tho press.
