THE FINAL BALL.

OVERSEAS CLUB HONOURED.

The third and last of the brilliant social functions in the Art Gallery Hall that have marked the Prinoe's visit to Dunedin took place last night under the auspices of the Overseas Club. It was about halfpast 10 when his Royal Highness was brought to the hall by the Mayor (Mr VV. Begg) and introduced to tho local chairman of the Club (Mr A. E. Usherwood) and members of the Ball Committee. The ladies formed in two rows and made a bower of over-arching fern fronds, under which the Prince walked. Misses Evie Bell and Ruby Barth, representing the girls of the Overseas Club, thereupon asked his Highness graciously to do them the honour of accepting the gift of a greenstone watch, suitably inscribed, for the Princess Mary, his sister. To this request the Prince readily acceded. Then followed the ceremony of presentation, tho Prinoo again gallantly shaking hands with a very large proportion of those present. There were about 170 couples in the hall, but free use was made of the lounge room, and the floor was left much freer for dancing than it was on the two previous evenings. Tho Prince accompanied Mrs Usherwood, wife of the president, to supper. His laiown preference for the Fox toot was quickly reflected in the choice of extras, and his Highness appeared to be enjoying himself thoroughly. Among his partnera were Misses Roberts, Loma Dick, Macintosh, Kempthorne, and Massey (daughter of the Prime Minister). His Highness, possibly reflecting that it was his last night in Dunedin, delighted his hosts by prolonging his stay till nearly 1 a.m. Just before he left Mr Usherwood aroused great enthusiasm by announcing tha.t his Highness had been pleased to accept life membership in t&e Overseas Ghib. The badge of the club was pinned on his breast by Mrs Usherwood. "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" was sung with great heartiness, and resounding cheers were raised for the Prince, and also for Sir Lionel Haisey, hefore the Royal guest bade the assembly "Good-night."
