MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE

WELL-KNOWN OTAGO MEDICAL MAN. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 14. I>r J. G. Hyde, of Tarras, _ Otago, disappeared from the steameir Wahine during her trip from Lyttelton this morning. His disappearance was not noticed till the Wahine, had been in port for an hour. Dr Hyde is a well-known Otago medical man, having resided in Central Otago for many years. He was at one time ship's surgeon on a vessel trading on the African coast. He was in charge of Dunstan Hospital for some time, but retired a few years ago to a property at Tarras now being farmed by his son's, and where Mrs Hyde lives. He was keenly interested in the welfare of the district, and was associated with •various gold mining activities.
