RAILWAYMAN'S DISPUTE
TRIBUNAL SITTINGS COMMENCED. (Peb United Pbess Association.) . WELLINGTON, May 14. Tho tribunal set up to consider the A.S.R.S. . sccti<*n of the railway dispute held its first sitting to-day. Tho order of reference* directs the tribunal to inquire and report to the Minister of Railways on such matters affecting rates of pay and conditions of work of the Second Division as may bo brought before it by tho department or the A.S.R.S. The tribunal is requested to report as soon as possible. The inquiry may bo conducted in public, and whenever members think fit. , To-day's proceedings were in private. The Primo Minister attended the opening of the tribunal. Consideration of tho matter went on satisfactorily during tho afternoon. Discussion will be resumed to-morrow. The representatives of the Government on tho Looomotive Dispute Committee will be Mr .James Marohbanks (formerly chief engineer of the old Mnnawatu Railway Company), and Mr W. H. Millword (formerly a manager of the Gear Moat Company).
