Tlk: attendant wis looking at a target when he heard a shot and turned round and found Colonel Wliitnioro with a wound iu tlio abdomen. It might havo been an accidcnt. The deceased, when oh his way to tho hospital, was asked if that was so, and replied "Yes." A verdict of accidental doath was returned. DARG-AYILLB, May 14. When Tom Griffith, mail coach driver, was driving from Whangarei yesterday morning witli members of the Lyric Con' cert Company aboard, he drove into a heavy flood at Taylor's Flat, Tangiteroria. Two of the horses were drowned. One member of the company had a narrow escape. The wagonetto was under water with tho Concert Company's gear.- Two of the lady members had a terrible experience, and are now in bed. The whole company are staying at settlers' houses at Taylor's Flat. A doctor has been sent for on account of tho Indies and the member who narrowly escn.ped drowning. GREY'MOUTH, May 14. Yesterday a party, consisting of Mr and Mrs J. Park and infant and Mrs Poschich, were coming to Barrytown to attend the Prince's welcome. The trap capsized at Tfen-inilo Crook nt a dangerous portion of the road. The party had a narrow escapc from drowning. Tho gear was washed to sea, and the party lost a large sum of money. Frequent traprcGentai.k>M havo been mode to the Government as to tho necessity of bridging tho creek, which has. been the scene of many serious accidents.
