LADY JOURNALIST'S PROPOSAL.
(FaoM Oub Own Cobbeepondknt.) AUCKLAND, May 13. An endeavour is being made to form a congiuuiity club in Auckland. In outlining tho objects at an inaugural mooting, "the convener (Mrs F. Oarr 'Rollott) said the need for such institutions was two-sided.' Ono was to provide 1 decent and aboveboard recreation for youna: men and women, who for luck of it found their amusement in the streets, hotels, and undesirable places.. The proposition which she placed before the meeting wa& that they should endeavour to establish a community club open to all of 17 yoanS and over," where pleasant eduoativo recreation might bo obtained; where super-. Vision by representative men and women would guarantee that the amusement was of an orderly character. They might have card games, physical Rames, physical culture classes, libraries of books and papers, popular lecture* and talks, music, billiards; dancing, and even ldnpmatogra.phe. They might have an information bureau, through which applicants could secure good, clean lodgings. They might also provide light supper. Tho financial aspefct of the matter woe the serious one, said Mrs Rollott. They would have to go to the public, and she thought tho municipality should bear its snnre. A resolution was carried deoidine to wko step to establish a community club, and a s-üb-committee was appointed to approaoh the Mayor and other, citizens with ' a view of obtaining support.
