AUCKLAND, May 131 lhe Arbitration Court award in tho Auckland Carpenters and Joiners, Brickmakore, and Operative Stonemasons' Unions, which it is understood will operate as a dominion award, fixed tho hours of work at 44. T.ho minimum wage for journeymen carpenters and' joiners and joiners' machinists 18 2s per hour; bricklayers and stoneinaons, 2a ljd per hour. In addition, a bonus of 3d per hour is to be paid. On all outeide jobs a worker who is responsible for carrying out work and who gives instruction* to other workers, shall receive not less than Is per day extra. Overtime., timo and α-half for the first' three hours, double time thereafter. Apprentices: First yenr, 15s per week; second year, 22s 6d; third year, 30s; fourth year, 37s 6d; fifth year, 459.. On passing a technical college examination apprentices ehill );c entitled to not less than 5s per week extra ' during their fourth year, Stonemasons working on granite receive 2s 6d extra. Bricklayers shall receive time nnd (i-quartor for all hot or .dirty work, chimney stacks, and towers over 40ft in. height and standing apart from any building, and steeples over 25ft above the building. Work done in two or mare inches of water or where water is dripping on a worker, except where Rumboote or oilskins are provided, all repairs to bakers' ovens, !* retorts, and furnaces done during working hours, double- time. If done on Sundays or holidays, tre-blo time. These provisions arc. not to apply to permanent hands employed by city corporations, gas companies, biscuit or confectionery manufacturers, or the Colonial Sugar Company.
