STATEMENT BY GENERAL BOOTH,

WELLINGTON May 13. Apropos of the statement credited to General Booth, recently cabled from Austriaia in respect to prohibition, Commissioner Hodder has received a cablegram from the general's secretary correcting; the report as lollows:—"Asked if prohibition was probablo shortly in the United Kingdom, General Booth expressed doubt as to the possibility of enforcing so great a change on ono section of the population unless it is carried by such an overwhelming majority soems improbable at present." The following statement was credited to General Booths in a Melbourne cable- mesenge dated May 9; —"General Booth, when asked about his attitude towards prohibition said ho would like to see Australia dry, but he was not sure whether the will of one section should be forced on-others,"
