The truant officer reported that two oonviotione had been obtained at the Magistrate's Court, Dunedin, and that two informations were laid for hearing at Alexandra. The general attendance in nearly all tho city and subufban schools at the present time was very much aOected by influenza, mumpa, etc Kaikorai seemed to be 'the most affected at present. The following country schools had reported eovecal cases of influenza this week:—Duntroon, Hyde, Karitane, Wetherstonos, Airedale, and Strath TaierL There were' also several cases of mumps and a few oases ol German measles at Strath Taieri.
GBNEEAL. The Secretary reported that 55 schools had failed to elect committeee on April 19___lt waa decided to fix Juno 16 ae the date for fresh elections. 'fhe Perpetual Trustees and Agency Co. enclosed a che<jue for £300, being the amount of a legacy under the will of tu lato Mr Alex. Burt, to be de-voted to scholarships in practical trades.—lt was resolved to ask the Technical School Mamftgera to make eome recommendation as to the dieposal of the legacy. _ The architect's pkna for the new limning College Girls' Hostel at tlie corner of «t ;Dn,vid and King streets, were referred to a committee consisting ol the chairman, Messrs Horn, and Wilkinson. If approved they win be forwarded to Wellington, with a request for a grant towards tho cost of their erection. Tho board decided to hold over the work of making additione to the teachers residence at Tuapeka Mouth, as the tender waa more than double the amount of theGovernment grant. A request from the Awamoko Committee for improved heating of tfce schoolrooms, the removal of coal sheds, and levelling of ground was refemsd to the architect for a report. _ _^ A request from the Labour Department that the truant officer should be authorised to supply it with information as to ai. the oases- tbat came under his notice where boys and girle were employed before and altar ,sohool houre waa granted. The head master at Livingstone .asked for re-pairs to school fences and for the supply of a cupboard, ohair, and timber 'for the seating of -he shelter shed. The architect •was instructed to 'report on the fencing, and to act in the other oases. The Architect reoommended that the ,Wairuna Committee be authorised to employ local tradesmen to effect repairs to the school residence. —Approved. The Waikouafti Committee asked for payment of an account for £4 ls 4d for various repairs.—Architect to inspect and report. Minor repairs were authorised to, be cifected at the Lauder Railway, K.yeburn Diggings, Wuoaka, Bannookbum, Bendigo, and Normal Schools.
