ALHAMBRA FOOTBALL CLUB

ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED. The Alhambra. Football Club has just reason be proud of its record in Rugby football, but it has a greater cause for congratulation on its splendid achievement during tho great war ,as was revealed last Saturday afternoon to those not previously acquainted with the club's war eftort. The occasion >v«i3 tho unveiling of an honours board in tho club's pavilion at Opoho, when a largo number of past and present players and supporters of tho redfand-black assembled to do honour to their soldier foot bailers. Mr George Nelson (president of the olub) was in the chair, 'and Mr J. J. Clark (who occupied that office during the war poriod) and Mr E. Kallett, M.P , wore also present. The board has 110 fewer than 200 names inscribed on it, and 40 of these, alas! are subawibed with the motto "Killed in action." It is a very line piece of work in the form of a cabinet, with two loaves that may bo folded inwards. Mr Clark said that next week would be celebrated the fifth anniversary of the landing at Anzac —the most memorable day in the history of tho dominion. But the glory of Gallipoli was but tho commencement of the work which had been done 4 by our men. Tho saying was attributed to the Duke of Wellington that Waterloo was won an the playing fields of Eton, and it could equally bo said of this country as to other ports of tho Empire: that uw spirit of athletic bodies waa the same ■ b u was in the days of old. Talk ot the decadence of tho racc booauee of its atttnUon to Bport had ceased! The Albambra Club had many proud and glorjous victories, but none _so groat as was their response to the clarion call of battle. He was glad to welcome the players who had returned. "Tho Last Post" was thtfa sau?<ded. Mr Kellett Ti'gratulatcd the committee on the club's splendid roll of honour. He had not though that tho club had sent nearly so many mon to the front, arc? ho complimented it on its splendid record. Tho proceedings were brought to a close with three ringing cheers for tho retained soldier members of tho club.
