A report by the Chief Inspector of Mine*, issued by lie Home Office, states that the production of coal in Great Britain during tne period of 46 yeara, 1873-1918, amounted to 9,192,072,000 tone. France received over 16£ million tons, Italy over 4 millions, Egypt ncaziy 1J million, Gibraltar over li million, Norway over li million, Malta nearly \\ million,' and Sweden and Denmark each over 1 million tons. Adding the 2,881,116 tone exported in the form of coke and manufactured fuel, and the 8,756,476 tons shipped for the use of British and foreign steamers engaged in foreign trade, the total quantity of coal which left the country was 43,390,496 tons, a* against 48,728,461 tons in 1917, The amount of coal remaining for home consumption waa 184,358,158 tons, or 4.385 tons per head of the population.
