Tho various recommendations of the Standing Comnrittee'B report were adopted with Httle or no discussion, The chief clauses wad ad fallows*-— The committee recommended, with respect to tho letter from the town clerk, offering (subject to confirmation by .council) i'4oo por annum fox lease for 14 years of 3i acre block 75, that the offer bo adopted. With respect to the letter from the local trafuo manager. Union Steam Ship Company, relative to fishing from Birch street wharf, more particnlarry when •vessels are berthwd there, that the letter be received, and that fishing be permitted on Bhnhstrect wharf only when vessela using the railways mo "not berthed there. With respect to letter from J. Chambers and ' Son, advising receipt of cable from Babcock and Wilcox, advising advance of prices in consequenoo of which their tender is increased by £359, bringing same up to £7802, tho committee recommended that tho chairman's fction in agreeing to the incrcaso in price of £359 be approved. With respect to tho letter from W. G. Robertson quoting for Standard engine, and the memo, from tho engineer thereon, recommending cancelling of order to Mr Robertson, that cancellation be approved, and that tho engineer bo empowered to eocure an exchange of engines with tlio board's lightkecper. "With respect to tho numerous applications for increases from the board s employees, that all applications for increases be referred to tho Salaries and Wages Comi mitteo to report. The committee recommended that the Prime Minister be urged to take immediate steps to deal with tho cost of living, especially profiteering, as the constant appeals for increased wages from our employees to cover this are causing embarrassment to tho hoard. With respect to the report from the engineer and harbour master in ro swinging basin, that the matter stand over for six months. That the board present an address to Ms Royal Highness and that the chairman and deputy chairman bo authorised to prepare same and to complete all arrangements in s connection therewith, also that the proposed visit to tho Port Chalmers docks be approved. That a. contribution of a maximum of £200 be allocated to tho City Council. That the accident insurance risk for 192021 bo divided as hitherto. That in accordanoo with the previous decision the plans and specifications of _ the proposed new freezing works, as submitted by tho board's engineer, be forwarded to Mr A. S. Mitchell, architect, for his report. DEEP STSA PEKSH FISH COMPANY. The Chairman made a statement in regard to tho application of tho Deep Sea Fresh Fish Company for a lease of land next to tho proposed sheer legs wharf at Fort Chalmers. He said the sub-com-mittee set up to deal with tho matter had made a visit to Port Chalmers with the engineer, and inspected the site. _ The engineer had reported that in view of the necessity of having at some future : date to shift tho sheer legs it would be bad policy for the board to grant any lease of land jn the locality in question.. The sub-committee had suggested to the directors, of tho company, however, that they might approach some of the lessees of tho board's lands situated towards Boiler Point, , And''obtain a sub-loose of these lands. ! Tho chairman's statement was approved, And it was decided that the sub-epmmittee should, have power to act in any further aegotiations and roport to the board.
