OTAGO CRICKET ASSOCIATION
_ A meeting of the Otago Cricket Association was held last evening, Mr A. Martin presiding. The Hon. Secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council wrote inquiring if the association favoured the holding of a match between the two islands.—The Secretary said he had consulted the president and others, and replied that it was their opinion the association should wait till it was in a stronger position before attempting to hold the match.—His action waa approved. The Secretary also wrote stating that it had been decided to take no further steps towards obtaining a visit from an Australian team this season., but the council was considering the advisabilitv of approaching the 'Austrapan Board of Control with a view to arranging a programme for future interchanges between Australia® and New Zealand teams. —Received.
It was resolved to agree to February 20, 21, and 23 as the dates for the match against Canterbury at Christchurch, and to fix Tuesday, February 10 as the date for the match against North Otago at Dunedin. The Hon. Secretary of the Southland Cricket Association wrote proposing February 17 and 18 as the dates for the match at InvercargilL—lt was resolved to suggest March 23 and 24 instead. —The secretary was instructed to write to the senior clubs to find out what players would be willing to make the trip to Invercargill at their own expense if selected.
Tlie Chairman congratulated Mr Galland on captaining the winning team against Wellington. The team was to bfe congratulated on the fine showing they made which would encourage the team that was to visit Canterbury. There was no reason -wily they should ix>t make a good showing there also. The Secretary reported that the financial result of the two interprovincdal matches was as follows:—Southland match: itecepts £15, expenditure £11 6s, credit balance £2 14s; Wellington match—receipts £80 17s 9d. expenditure £37 14s Id, credit balance £43 3s Bd.
Mr Wycherley said he had been informed that the club at Owaka was keen to have a visit from a Dunedin team, and suggested that something might be done in the matter. —It was decided to write to Owaka for information, and suggesting Easter as a date. A match with Heriot is also to be arranged. ,
Mr L. Joel said it was common rODOrfc that a certain player had been left out of the team for personal reasons, and that two other players had refused to play on that account. With them he had no sympathy, but. he thought the committee should be instructed not to pass over a player for personal reasons.-—The President repudiated the suggestion that personal reasons had been allowed to affyct the selection, and said he thought the team had done credit to the selectors.—Mr Haiar thought there was plenty of room for improvement in the selection of the teams.
