WESTERN TAIERI DRAINAGE BOARD.

There was a full attendance at the monthly meeting of the Western Taieri Drainage Board yesterday, Mr James Miller presiding. The special order raising a loan of £1900 for. flood damage repairs was confirmed, and a special rate of 2d per acre on "A" olass < land, with 'a corresponding rate on remaining rateable classes of land was made as a security for the loan. Aooouots totalling £440 12s 3d were passed for payment. The Foreman reported that the following work had been attended' to during the month The repairs to the break in Robinson's bank had been completed. The bank between Heenan's and Robinson's and the lower end of the contour bank had been repaired. The bridge had been taken off and the out-filled in on Henley road. The following drains had been cleaned drain, from pump to Henley road: "A" . drain, from lake to Poplar drain; and about a mile of Poplar drain at Berkley.—Npted. The Engineer reported on the progress being made by the contractors on Taieri River embankment works, and continued: "In view of tbs requirements of the Publio Works Department that tie embankment be made secure throughout before any other work is allocated for, I advise another contraot being let on completion of the present works, giving attention to all places that are slack. I forward specification for construction of 65 chains of embankment round the Little Lake, from the contour channel outlet to Lee canal outlet. My instructions were to 'make secure,' and I do not think that any strengthening of the present embankment with the two-side ditches so close to the 1 toe of the batters will accomplish this end. Such proposal would not in any case be approved by the Publio Works Department. So that you have apparently to decide between the more costly work under Government subsidy and temporary repairs out of revenue. With regard to the outlet box for Lee canal, I suggest a.double sft bv.4ft, and if this meets with your approval, I will call for tenders on the usual specification. I have not had time to take levels for other drainage matters deferred for report, but hope to clear off all instructions this month."—lt was resolved to inspect the banks round the Little Lake. The Secretary of the Momona Co-opera-tive Dairy Factory Company notified the company's intention to lay a new pipe drain from the factory to the river.—Approved. J. Hall (Berwick) wrote offering to remove small willows on the bank at Berwick River for a stated sum.—Declined; board's surfaceman to do the work.
