Sanders, Ramsay (Balclutha); Bell, Blythe, Thomson, Hardio (Mornington) : Ipso, Cunningham, Holgate, Botting (Monrington); EJder, Sullivan, Summerfield, Black {Dunedin); Jago, -Israel, Didham, M'Farland (St. Kilda); Allan, A. Kirkland, Barolay. J. B. Kirkland (Fairfield); Leadbetter, Lannam, Seddon, Cole (St. Clair); Robertson, Will, Connor, Veitoh (West Harbour); Smyth, Isaac, Hendry, Scott (Caledonian); Price, Iggo, Tretheway, Robertson (Caversham) ; Hutchison, Bishop, Stewart, Harraway (Dunedin). Ramsay won his sect:'on on Southland Green, Black Was green winner on Te -Rangi Green, and Harraway was green winner on Northend Green.

With regard to the semi-final and final,' the Southland Times critic has the following to, say:— , "The morning events took place at Northend. Black's Dunedin rink had to face their clubmates skipped by the redoubtable Harraway, and if fervent good -wishes could have counted the former would have found a place in the final against Thorn, but apparently the l crowd on the bank did not belong to the righteous, and their prayers were of no avail. It was. of course, asking just a little too much of Black's team to expect them to succeed against a rink that is probably as strong as can be picked anywhere in New Zeaknd, but in getting into tho prize-list they did remarkablv and, mostly certainly, very great credit must be accorded to the skip, genial Alick Black— he will always be most welcome on Invercargill greens. "The chief interest of the afternoon centred' in the rink match Dunedin v. Mataura. It was expectod thai Thorn would put up' a good »ight against Harraway, but it was generally felt that tho greater tournament and- club match experience of the Dunedin players would enable them to got home. ' When the score stood Dunedin 12, Mataura 6, the friends of Thorn and his mates looked somewhat glum. But the Mataura skip has shown on many an occasion down hero tli at he is a sticker, one who never throws away an opportunity; ho is always ready to run a little risk if there is something, in sight, even, one would think sometimes, if that something is probematical. His turn came again at the ninth end with a scot 0 of a single, and, giving the signal to_ Buchanan to throw a long end, ho and his men stepped out on the road to fortune, and scoring nine ends in. succession, changed' the tally from 12—6 to 12—19 in their favour with but four enda to go. Two to Dunedin was balanced by a two to Mataura, tho latter seven up and two ends to go. In tho next end Donald and Thorn_ went unacoountably to pieces, and Dunedin notched four points, leaving them three' down and the last end to go. Tlys, however, prayed too much for them, and one of the. best final matches seen in Invercargill tournaments was won by the Mataura players. For the winners Buchanan led excellently all through, and contributed in a very large measure to the victory. Batcheler was the least successful of the Mataura four, but at times he got in some good shots. Dttnald was reliable, and did much good work, while the skip, Thorn, was his ojyn cool imperturbable self, never put out, _ but always confident, and all the time playing a steady skilful game, except in that one case on tho twentieth head where he failed badly.

yHow the Dunedinites failed nine times running is one of thoso mysteries that aro constantly recurring in the bowling world.. Huteheson is a fine lead, sends away his bowls beautifully, but seemed not at ail at home with long heads. Bishop is a good player, Stewart one of the most skilful and reliable players one oould wish to have, while Ernie .Harraway is one of the best skips in the dominion. The Mataura players are to be complimented on gaining fie viotory over such a team." PAIRS MATCHES. Practically all tho local players who took part in tho rinks games entered for the pairs matches. On the Southland Green Hendry (Caledonian), Sanders (Kaituna), Black (Dunedin), and Connor (West Harbour) were section winners. In the final for green winner Sanders (Kaituna) squeezed home against Hendry by the narrow margin of one point, tho scores being 13—12. ' Tho Southland Times critic writes as follows in regard to the semi-final and final of tlie Pairs competition: : — "The effervescent liaka-dancing Tom Sanders, playing with Dunn, of Balcktha, just won on the post from Bremner and Stevenson, while IS. Smith and A. E. Wesney mado no race of it against D. J. Wesney and W. Watson, who, after obtaining a lead of 8-4/ were put quietly to sleep while their opponents piled up a good score, winning the remaining ends with monotonous regularity,. "In ths afternoon Sm ; ih and Wesney had a dose of the medicine they had administered to their opponents in the morning, only with the difference that Sanders must have given it to them just before play, for it was only when it was next to impossible to win did they wake up. Inckeed, it locked as though it was to be a love game three-fourths of tho way through, then they succeeded in coming' to life a bit and scored a few points. Sandere in this game did not have Dunn with him. This player had to leav.e bv tho afternoon train. Any old player,, however, would do for Sanders in an emergency, so he contented himself with Ramsay as a mate, hoping bravely, albeit a little anxiously, that he was not laying up against himself a handicap that might prove too severe. _ His hopes were gratified, and the first prize in the Pairs Match went ix> him and his mate (Dunn)." On ihe Northend Ore'® Stewart (Dunedin) and Tretheway (Caversham) were amongst section winners, and in the playoff for green winner Tretheway 14 beat Stcwajt 13. On the Invercargill Green Bremner 17 beat Tinnock {Gore) 14. Timiock is an exmember of the Oavershom Club. The players who reached the_ semi-final and final in the Singles competition experienced a very strenuous day, and Soott and Yeitch, who contested tho final, were really physically unfit to give a display approaching their best form. As a matter of fact both player.) wished to play the game on another day, and as both wene willing to remain in Invareorfjill for the purpose, there should have been no difficulty in.postponing tho game. Playing singles from 8 a.m. tall 9 p.m. on a hot day places a heavy etrain on pity ere. A start has been made with the alterations to the Balmacewen Club's in order to provide accommodation for tho billiard table which was recently presented to tho club by the widow of an ex,-meaSber. A large number of Dunedin and southern bowlers have gone to Chrdstchurch to take part in the dominion, tournament, whioh will commence tomorrow.
