Dr and Mrs Truby King, who have been I abroad for the past 18 months, have arrived at Wellington. Nurse Haggart was recently appointed matron of the Children's Convalesoent Hotno at Co/versham. Mr J. A. Sim, who for some time paat has been associate to his Honor Mr Justice Sim, recently obtained his LL.B. degree, and has taken up a position with the legal firm of Messrs Raymond, Raymond, and Campbell, of Timaru. His place as associate will be filled by Mr A. N. Haggitt. Mr J. A. Hanan, M.P., arrived in Dunedin yesterday. _ He is visiting his soldier nephew,, who is still an inmate of the Dunedin Hospital. Sir Robert and Lady Stout are at present on a visit to Southland. They are staying at Sir Robert's property at Waikawa. Mr W. H. Mackenzie, acting 1 tramway manager, is at present on his annual holiday leave. Mr R. T. Sadd (Commissioner, of Grown Lands) left Dunedin yesterday morning' on a visit to Miller's Flat connected with the business of his department. Ho will return to Dunedin, to-night. A Sydney cable messajjo states that Mr J. A. Carpenter, former manager for Burns, Philp, in Northern Queensland, has been appointed general manager of the company's New Zealand business, which it is intended to extend to the South Island. The death is announced of Colonel W. E. Gudgoon, C.M.G., who had been living in retirement for the. last, few years, and who for the past six months had been in failing health. He was 78 years of age. Colonel Oudgeo'i took an active part in tho Maori war and was awarded a commission for gallantry. After the war he was in turn appointed resident magistrate at Gisborne, commander of the lafld forces at Wellington, Acting Under-secretary for Defence, Commissioner of Police, Judge of tho Native Land Court, and British Resident at the Cook Islands. He received tho C.M.G. in 1900. Ho was residing at Devonport at the time of hia death.—Auckland telegram. \ Numerous friends in New Zealand of Professor G. S. Sale, formerly of Dunedin, will regret to hear (writes our London correspondent under date November 20) that he is very ill, and is now confined entirely to his bed.' Although he is not able to take any part in active affairs, he is still always interested to hoar New Zealand news when tho mails come in.
"Up to the closing of tho mail this evening," writes our London, correspondent k>n November 20, "no information at all has been gleaned as to tho whereabouts of I>r A. O. Evans, who left-the City of London Hospital, "Victoria. Park, for a walk on October 25, and considerable mxiety continues to bo felt for his safety. Dr Evans is believed to have been suffering' from loss of memory, as the result of overwork. H© had served with both (he R.A.M.O. and the N.Z.M.C., and was a graduate of Otago University."
