Mr W. J. R. Simpson, who has held tho position of head auctioneer for the Ashburton branch of tho National Mortgage and Agoncy Company (Ltd.) for tho past tlueo years, has been promoted to the managership of tho company's Gore branch. Mr Bernard Tripp lists been appointed by the Now Zealand Red Gross J'.xecutivo as a delegate for tha Geneva Conference, which will take plaeo on Maroh 2. Ho and Mrs TVipp will loavo tliis week by the Arawa, from. Wellington. Just previous to tho "festive season," Pxivato Robert W. Watson, who has been confined to bed in ono of tho military wards of tho Dunedin Hospital for many mouths, was presented by his comrades of the Roslyri Presbyterian Church Young Men's Bible Class with a wristlet watch and several volumes of standard literature. The recipient suitably acknowledged tho gifts. Constable Lean, who for some time past has acted as orderly in the City Police Court, has boon appointed, subject to ratification by the Commissioner of Poliro, to a position on the detective staff at tho Central Station. • Tho vacancy which is to bo filled by Constable Lean was oa.used by Detective Ilaijimerly leaving tho force. Coiißtnblo Harvey, of tho North Dunedin Police Station, has been appointed court orderly.
