WELLINGTON'S ATTRACTIONS.
(Fbom Oun Own Correspondent.) ■WELLINGTON, January 2. Tho weather has beon fine for tho New Tear holidays, and, as many trippers have gone away, tho city wears a Sunday aspect. The principal near attractions is a Victory Gala and a Venetian carnival at Lyall Bay, on Cook Strait, where thousands throng the beach and parade. An estimate places the crowd at 20,000 people. During the holidays Wilton's Bush was the scene of a man hunt. An elderly man, who was apparently deranged, was pursued by a number of civilians, and on boin" caught was taken into c- itody by the police! Tho old man is a recent arrival from Ghristohurch, and intended to proceed to San Francisco.
