LIGHT RAILWAYS

The report of Major Vickerrrum on the light railways used in France during the war was tabled in the llouso of Representatives a few days ago. Sir Joseph Ward asked whether there was any indication as to tie quantity of light railway material on the Continent, and as to what chance New Zealand had of securing some portion of it. The Prime Minister replied that practically none of the material was available, as it had been handed to the French Government. There was. however, a quantity of now material which was being offered for sale elsewhere, but he understood the price for this was very high. Sir Joseph "Ward: What is meant in this case by light railways? Are they the samo as our own?. The Prime' Minister replied that he did not know for certain, though he understood some of tho gauges were only 2ft.
