A POPULAR TEACHER

A large gathering of parents took place at the Kavensbourne School on Friday afternoon to bid farewell to Miss Lear, who has been promoted to the mistress-ship of tho Kensington School. The chairman of the School Committee (Mr D. R. M'Ewan), who presided, said that Miss Lear had captured the affection of parents and children alike by her faithful work and bright, lovable character. It was with great regret that tho committee parted with her, but since it was only by leaving them that she could obtain promotion, they congratulated the school which was obtaining her services, and wished her every success in her new position. Mr Grant, the headmaster, endorsed what _Mr M'Ewan had said with reference to Miss Lear, and said that ariy school was fortunate which had a mistress of the quality of Miss Lear._ She made her infant room a veritable children's garden. Children were fortunate to be met at the threshold- of their school life by such a teacher and to have school work madft so attractive and pleasant. Ho asked Miss Lear to accept a gold bangle and: a brush as an expression of the affectionate esteem of the pupils, parents; and staff. Tho Rev. A. Gray returned thanks on behalf of Miss Lear, and added his testimony to her lino influence upon tho children of the school. Afternoon tea was _ handed! round to the adults, and the children wero treated! to cakes. The gathering broke up, after singing "God be with you till wo meet again." with ringing cheers for Miss .Lear.
