Heavy rain continued laot night The Oroaka River topped its banks, and as a ■result pome overflow water cair.e into the tewn, tho low-lying northe-m s;do being flooded. The railway lino between Blenheim and Picton in many placcs is under water. The substantial banking works of the River Board are holding wonderfully, and it is not anticipated that there will ba any serious break in tho river. Tho rain has now abated somewhat, and the indications point to a subsidence of the waters. NORTH CANTERBURY SUFFERS. LARGE LOSSES OF STOCK. (pRa United Pr.sss Association.! Tha heavy rams and cold weather which 92t in on Wednesday throughout North Canterbury have rather definitely belied tho previous promise of a mild and early sprint, and lambs will suffer considerably through tho cold conditions on the flats, where the sheep are exposed to the storm, and where water is lying in the paddooks. The trouble will occur thua at Amberley. °The farmers on the hills have suffered le.is severely than thoso on the flats. At Waipara. Waiau. and Cheviot the l<ysses pre fairly general.
