OTAGO ROWING CLUB

The forty-sixth annual report of tho Otago Rowing Club states, inter alia:— " At tho beginning of the season we were fortunate in enrolling 20 new active members. It will not be until tho commencement of tho coming season, when it is known how many of our returned members are again taking up tho sport, that it can be ascertained exactlv as to what tho strength of tho club is. This season has seen tho revival of tho interest and activity in tho pport as far as tho club is concerned. During the provious season very littlo rowing 'was indulged in as tho result of tho majority of tho members having been called up for service. Tho plant is in good order, and vary little work is required to be done to prepare for tho coming season. During the year, one of the practice fours was sold to tho Awarua Club. It was also decided to make endeavours to dispose of tho best-and-best four-oared and pair-oared, as this class of rowing is not catered for here. An order has been placed with Messrs J. Edwards and Son, of Melbourne, for tho supplv of a new four-oared racing clinker boat, which is expected to arrive here in the coxirso of a month or so. The subscriptions show an increaee- as against the previous season, and the receipts wore supplemented by £15 as a result of the sale of _ tho practice four, and £17 10s was re coivisd by way of prize money at tho Qucenstovm regatta. Although tho club has to faco tho expenditure of at least £50 in the purchase of the new boat, the position will be relieved by tho subscription reverting back to tho original amount. The roll of honour stands the same as at tho last annual meeting, that is, 85. Sixteen members have made the supreme sacrifice. Sineo the last annual meeting the club has been presented with two silver cupe for annual competition between the members. This will now make a total of nine cups available for annual competition between the members."
