SUPPLIES OF GOAL
SHORTAGE IN AUCKLAND. (Past Ukited Pbxbs Asbociatiok.) AUCKLAND, August 25. The coal stocks for the manufacture of gas are dangerously low in Auckland, and householders are being warned of the necessity for rigid economy in connection with the gas service.
WOOLSTON COUNCIL'S PROPOSAL
PORT CHALMERS COUNCIL DEFERS CONSIDERATION. At last night's meeting of the Port Chalmers Borough. Council a letter was read from the Woolston Borough Council asking for support to its resolution—"That this council declares that the only solution of the coal problem is the public ownership and control of the mining, transportation, and distribution of coal, with adequate representation of the workers on the board or boards of control, and therefore condemns the proposals for semi-private control of the mining industry, with State guarantee of dividends to private shareholders, as embodied, in the Board of Trade' 3 report, and asks that the samo bo brought under tho notice of tho local M.P. if approved." Or Tait proposed that' the matter be held over to next meeting, and this was agreed to.
