A THAMES MYSTERY

THE LATE CAPTAIN C. K WARD. (From Oue Own Correspondent.) LONDON, April 29. The disappearance of Captain C Kenneth Ward, of the New Zealand 'Dental Corps, from Walton Hospital, where he was a' patient, in January, 1918, is cleared up to some extent by the discovery last Sunday of the headless and armless body of a man in the intake of the Metropolitan Waterworks at W&lton. The discovery was made only 50 vards from, the spot where, on January 15" last year, the hat, bicycle, and some letters belonging to Captain Ward were found. At the inquest the police sergeant at Walton Slid that -with the effects of Captain Ward discovered last year was a, letter written by Captain Ward intimating thiit in all probaboliy he -would be found' in tho riveT. Captain Ward was a man of 35£ years and sft 9in in height. The btxJv had no head or arms, and parts of ti: legs missing. There was not a scrap of clothing. Captain Alexander Whyte, of the N.Z.M.C., conld only say that the body was that of a male person which had been in. the water some months. In ord;na.ry circumstances this alone would account, for the removal of the head. There is nothing to ostablish identification. The ooionor remarked that the time coincided very well with the case of the missing man, and an open verdict was returned.
