<Peb United Press Associatiom.) CHEISTCHURCH, May 2L , T \&? Magistxate's Court to-day, before Mr M-Cartliy, 8.M., two men pieaded multv to obstruamg a oonstabla ia the execution of nis duty. Sub-inspector Mullany stated that on the evening of April 5 Constable Hurley -was attesting a man at Sydenham, whoa the two accused caught hold of him, and so nauopered his movements that hda prisoner escaped, and was not subscqupntly caught Accused, in excuse for their conduct, stated to the court that the constable was arresting returned soldiers.
'It is time," said the Magistrate, "that a certain section of the public should get rid of the idea that returned soldiers are to bo a.Uov/ed to do exactly as they liko en their return. We fully appreciate what they have done for us -while they have away, but New Zealand ,vould be a pandemonium if tho very few returned men who do misbehave themselves were allowed to do so without restraint. If they commit offences they must rcccihre -the, sarao treatment as ordinary' civilians." A fine of £5 was imposed in each case, the altemaiivo being two months , " Lnprisonment.
