IMMIGRATION SCHEME
TO BRITISH DOMINIONS. ARRANGEMENTS IN PROGRESS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, April 28. (Received May 4, at 5.5 p.m.) The High Commissioners and Agentsgeneral conferred with Mr Amery with reference to the Imperial immigration scheme, under whioh Britain pre-pays the passages of British ex-service men and dependents to the dominions.
Mr Amery notified that he expected to initiate the scheme in September or October, when shipping will be available. He is appointing representatives of the dominions' staffs to the Emigration Offices in the United Kingdom. Canada has notified that she is willing to accept immigrants, but she insists upon defraying the passages herself. It is understood that New South Wales is standing out of the scheme, as she does not require immigrants, except domestics, until repatriation is completed. She is willing to pay the passage money for domestics.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
