Q.—WILL PROHIBITION BRING ANY . INCREASES TO THE STATE REVENUE? Answer.—Yes. The £5,000,000 now spent on liquor must bo disposed of in other ways, and so mast yield the same average return to the State as the rest of production does—viz., 15.6 per cent. This on £5,000,000 is £780,000. ' Q—WILL THERE BE ANY OTHER INCREASE TO THE STATE REVENUE AS THE RESULT OF PROHIBITION? Answer.—Yes. The increased production will yield the same return of 15.6 per cent, to the State. On £5,000,000 this is £780,000; on £10,000,000 it would De £1,560,000. and on the American estimates a much higher sum. Q.—WHAT REVENUE WILL THE STATE LOSE THROUGH PROHIBITION? Answer. —About £1,000,000 o. year, "which is at present derived from the expenditure of £5,000,000 on liquor. Q.—WILL PROHIBITION RESULT IN INCREASED WORKING EFFICIENCY? Answer.—Yes. American estimates based upon actual experience place the increased efficiency at 21 per cent., but call it 10 per cent., or even as low as 5 per cent., this means £5,000,000' to £10,000,000 extra production.
