DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES

' " i. WAKARI SCHOOL. Prizes in connection with, tho work of last year were distributed last wook. Mr li. ii. Brown, chairman of the Scnool Committee, presided, and was supported on the platform by Messrs Brown (ot the iiducatiou Board), Kemnitz, aud Torrance. '■ The first part of the programme was supplied by Mrs Jas. Paietreon's concert party, consisting of Misses Colston (2), and Hannah, ' togetnor with Messrs J. Patersou, W-atersoti, Dawson, Holmes, and Miller Hope. Tho ettarts of the party wore highly appreciated. 'i'ho prizes were distributed by Messrs iirown and Torrance; the Navy Leaguo prizes by ivl'i* lyonniitx, <vnd the medals by Air Brugh. A special modal was presenced to Alex. Torrancc on his leaving- school aiter having attended oight years without a break. Two years ago his brother received a special prize for attending seven years. It is worthy of mention here that these lads have followed tho example of their father, who, as a member of the oommittee, or as its chairman, .never missed a meeting during the time he held oiiice—eight years or moro. The annual school picnio was held in Mr Bunting's grounds on Saturday, when there was a largo attendance of .parents and pupils. A long programme of events was completed to the apparent satisfaction of all concerned.
