ELECTIONS IN GERMANY
EBERT'S PROBABLE SUCCESS.
AMSTERDAM, January 22. The German elections continue in favour of an ordered Government. The Majority Socialists' lead increases. Out of 212 results the Majority Socialists have secured 96 seats, the Democrats 40. and the Centre Party 35. It is likely that Herr Ebert will continue as Chancellor. Herr Naumann, who is regarded as Germany's finest orator, is strongly supported.for the Presidency. The Independent Socialists are running Herr Eichorn for the Presidency. It is expected that the German National Assembly will meet at Weimar on February 6.—A. and N.Z. Cable. COPENHAGEN, January 23. (Received Jan. 26, at 5.30 p.m.) The final results are; Government Socialists, 169 seats; Independent Social ists, 29. Several women have been elected PARIS, January 23. (Received Jan. 26, at 5.30 p.m.) German wireless messages state that it is presumed that a majority of the Socialists will coalesce with the Democrats for a common Government. The National Assembly will propose that provisional central authorities be established until the new Imperial Constitution comes into force.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
