WAIKOUAITI ATHENÆUM
The annual meeting of the subscribers to the Waikouaiti 'Athenaeum was held on Monday evening, Mr N. Stewart (chairman) presiding. ' The; report presented by the secretary stated that the business affairs of the institution were in a satisfactory condition. The revenue derived from entertainment in the Public Hall had decreased considerably, but this loss was more than counterbalanced by the increased rental from the endowment During the year ,there were taken out 25 annual subscriptions, 14 half-yearly, and 35 quarterly, making a total of 74, and SO new books had been added to the library. The balance sheet showed the receipts to have been £274 ISs 6d, and' the expenditure £257 10s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £17 5s 2d.
I The report and balance sheet were adopted, and the following gentlemen were elected a Committee of Management for the ensuing year:—Messrs Templeton, 'Stewart Kerr, Lang, Ball, Smith, and Fell. At a meeting of the new committee the following officers were elected:—Chairman, Mr T?t. Templeton; secretary and treasurer, Mr B Hallett; Works Committee—Messrs Templeton, Stewart, and Lang; book selectorsMessrs Davis and Kerrj auditors—Messrs Brands and Garoie. 1/ ' '" .. '
