By-law Offenders.—Douglas Da/vie, who pleaded guilty to allowing a horse to wander in Richardson street, St. Kilda, was fined ss, with costa (7»).— —Peter Clark, for riding a motor cycle at an estimated speed of 27 miles an hour in the borough of Ravensbourne, wets fined .40s, with costs amounting to'l3a 6d. . ■■». Illegally in a Billiard Boom.—A charge of beinir found in a billiard room at 261 George street, at 11J.5 pjn»—an hour at ■which the premises should have been closed —was preferred against Adam Scott Johnston, George Peter Campbell, William James Corkran, William Nicholas Thompson, and Herbert John Morgan. All the defendant except Morgan appeared, and pleaded guDtv, stating in extenuation that the clock in the room had stopped, and none of them had a watch.—Sergeant Bolton stated that at the time of the offence the licensee of the room had gone out, leaving another man in charge.—Formal-evidence was given against Morgan.—The Magßtrate said a small fine would meet the case. Each defendant would be fined 53, and coste (7s). Maintenance.—Proceedings for the support of herself and five children were brought by his wife against Henry F. Elliott, who, on his part, applied for a reduction of the order on account of broken ■ time through ill-health. Mi- Hay appeared for the defendant and Mr Brasoh for the complainant.—The Magistrate, after hearing evidence, said he would adjourn both .proceedings sifle die on the condition that the defendant made payments of £2 10s per week ■while his circumstances were as at present. It had been stated that, Elliott was shortly poing to the country, where his board would be found," and when this took effect he ■would be required to pay £3 5s per week.
