HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD

The ordinary meeting of the High Schoola Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon; present—Messrs T K. Sidey, M.P. (in the ohair), H. Webb J M. GaJlaway.WK. Brughfj. O. Ross forwarded a report stating that with Dr Fulton, Mr Mandeno, and tho secretary he had opened the tenders for works at the Boys' High School, and as authorised by the board had accepted the tender of Mr A. Perry (£820) for the ereotion of tho lavatory block, and that of "Messrs Fletcher Bro3. (£2280) for the dressing rooms, shelter shed, armoury, eto. Tho report was received and approved.—ln connection with this matter the Education Department wrote approving of the proposed braidings, and stating that a grant of £2500 towards the works had been made —Received, the dopartme>nt to bo thanked." The treasurer reported having revised acr counts amounting to £789 23. These were passed for payment Tho bank books, after allowing for the month's accounts, showed a credit balance of £1935 3s Bd.

The Education Department wrote notifying the re-appointment of Dr I"ultoa} and Mr Gallaway aa members of c tb© board. Received.

The president of the Otago High School Old Boys' Association wrote etating- that Mrs John Roberta was desirous of presenting a tablet to the sohool in memory of her brother, the lato Judge Kettle, and asking for the board's permission.—Granted. A eub-oommittee consisting of Dr Fnlton and Messrs Gallaway and Brugh was set up to report on tho subject of physical instruction in both schools.

In connection with tho wish of the Minister of Education that the teaching of first aid and imrsing as part of. the domestic science should be carried out at the Girls' H%h Sohool, the chairman was authorised to ask tho lady principal to report on the proposal
