CFm Ukitbd Pbjmb Axeo&ATioKj • WELLINGTON, January 23. The Plunket Shield cricket match between Wellington (holders) and Canterbury (chaU lenders) was commenced yesterday. The wicket was in pretty good condition. Wei- * lingtoa batted firet, and made a total of 325. Canterbury bad made 132 for the loss of throe wickets when stumps were drawn. The match was resumed to-day. Thd weather had changed for the better over- ■ night, and the game was continued in bright sunshine on a good wicket. The ' wind was a trifle strong, but did not appear to make any appreciable difference to the play. Patrick and Gtriney, who had made 42 not out and 6 not ont respeotrvoly, continued Ganterbury'6 first inmngß which closed with a total of 188 runs. The biggest contributor was Patrick, who had 43 to his credit before he was caught out by Beershey. Wellington's second attempt was poor, for they wero dismissed in loss than two-and-a-halt hours of play for 163. With Wellington's total at 486, Canterbury had 299 runs to obtain to win. 'Shortly after 4.15 they went in to bat, and had made 129 for two wickets before 6 o'clock. Following are the details of the play\—
