AUCKLAND, December 18.
The Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association passed a resolution protesting against the appointment of Director of the Board ot Repatriation, urging the retirement cf the appointee (Mr Samson), and that applications bo invited by advertisement.
WELLINGTON, December 18. A clause in the Appropriation Act provides for increased salaries for school teachers aggregating £118,000 a year. TheMinister of Education states that the now regulations have boon approved by the Cabinet, and will be gazetted this * week, and operate on January 1. They provide increases averaging £20 for each teacher, varying from £10 to £30.r also for increasing the staffs in many of the larger schools. .First-year probationers, who used to receive £30 per annum, will now receive £55. The regulations contain other important improvements. J In. connection with wnr bonuses in tho public service, tho Hon. A. M. Myers states that it is not anticipated that there will be any unusual delay .but it was practically impossible for the vouchers to be completed before Christmas.
