"WIESBADEN AND COLOGNE. FRENCH AND BRITISH IN POSSESSION. LONDON, December 17. The French have entered Wiesbaden. The British have crossed the Rhine at Cologne in force, making an impressive spectacle. A crossing was simultaneously made at Bonn. The cavalry have reached the limit of the zone of occupation around the bridgeheads.—A- and N.Z. and Renter. FRENCH ARMY IN MAINZ. GERMANY'S CRIME. GENERAL FAYOLLE COLDLY SEVERE. THE RESIDENTS ASSURED. AMSTERDAM, December 17. (Received Dec; 18, at 7.30 p.m.) When the French army under Generals Mangin and Fayolle entered Mainz a deputation of the leading citizens waited on the generals, who are established in the palace of the Dnlce of Hesse, and stated that they were willing to work loyally under the French. , General Fayolle, replying, frankly told them that the war which Germany forced upon the world was the most unjust and cruel ever known, and was marked by a Refinement of barbarity that had received world-wide condemnation. He referred to ravaging Belgium and France' as armed robbery, not war. It had turned the country into a desert and made terrorism a system. That -was the situation for which they remained responsible. (General Fayolle added that he knew they feared reprisals, but they might rely on the traditions of Francs, who would never make women and children responsible or destroy for the mere pleasure of doing damage. They need not fear for their persons or goods. ,
